Our Next Journey
History seems to repeat itself when it comes to us moving to foreign countries. We get settled in, expecting to be there for a long time but then something happens to change that (usually job related). Although these moves require lots of planning and logistic maneuvering, I wouldn’t trade these adventures for anything. They are significant markers on our life’s journey and provide some of the most rewarding memories for us.
We’ve called Portugal ‘home’ for nearly two years now. We embarked on this journey intending to stay for several years. We bought a house and a car; filled out tons of immigration paperwork and jumped through many hurdles to get us and our two cats here. We barely got settled in and now it’s time to leave. Although it took a lot of effort to get here, I have to admit, I actually find these pivots rather rewarding. I’m always amazed at what we can accomplish and how resilient we are (and our cats) when it comes to picking up and moving on to the next adventure. Adventures have become part of our routine
The opportunity to live and work in a foreign country is so rewarding. We always meet amazing people and make new friends who will be in our lives forever; experience adapting to new cultures, holiday celebrations, foods; and just a different way of approaching life. We should just start calling them extended vacations instead of moves. I’m not sure where we’ll end up in the U.S. as part of this move, but I’m confident it will be an adventure.
